Nonprofit Leadership Development Courses: AACC

The following Nonprofit Leadership Development Courses will be given on the Arnold Campus of the Anne Arundel Community College in partnership with the Volunteer Center.  For more information about registration or about any noncredit course call the college at 410-777-2325 or visit the website: www.aacc.edu.  Registration for each course is $29 including $5 for materials.

Course PRS-355, Introduction to Mentoring, 9:00-11:00 am, Sat., Sat., Mar. 9 and Apr. 27, 2013; 7:00-9:00 pm, Wed., Mar. 27 and Thurs., May 9, 2013: Participants will be introduced to mentoring will identify the qualities of effective mentors and good listeners. You will develop a realistic understanding of the role of  a mentor and begin to explore effect approaches to mentoring.

Course CMD 375, Recruiting & Placing Volunteers, 6:00-9:30 pm, Tues., Mar. 12, 2013: Discover how to sell the benefits and explain the features of volunteer positions. Learn how to match volunteers and positions.

Course CMD 378, Evaluating a Volunteer Program, , 6:00-9:30 pm, Tues., Mar. 26, and May 7, 2013: Learn how to determine what to evaluate in your program. See how to assess volunteer satisfaction, management and outcomes, and learn how to use evaluation information effectively.

Course CMD-377, Supervising Volunteers, 6:00–9:30 pm, Tues., April 16, 2013: Learn how to define and communicate clear expectations. Review principles for good volunteer guidance and support for different types of personalities.

 Nonprofit Funding and Grants: Annapolis Area Library

2-4pm:  World of Government Grants
Three panelists will discuss what is unique about government grants and best practices to identify, apply for, and manage government grants.  Representatives from the Maryland Governor’s Grants Office, the Anne Arundel County Grants Administration, and the Arundel Community Development Services (who works with Federal grants related to affordable housing and community services) will offer information and insight, and answer questions.

2-3:30pm:  Introduction to Finding Funders of Government Grants
Refresh your knowledge about how to identify funders for your non-profit using the Foundation Center’s comprehensive research database – Foundation Directory Online Professional. We will focus on how to customize searches to develop lists of prospective foundation and corporate donors. 
4-5:30pm: Getting Started With Foundation Grants to Individuals Online
Learn effective strategies using this online database to find funders that support individuals. This workshop is geared toward individual grant seekers such as students, artists, academic researchers, musicians, librarians, academic financial aid officers – not organizations.
