STUDENT OPPORTUNITIES - Page 4
The Ann Arrundell County Historical Society For the last 52 years, the Ann Arrundell County Historical Society has sought to preserve the cultural treasures of the County by maintaining the historic Benson-Hammond House in Linthicum and the Kuethe Historical and Genealogical Research Center in Glen Burnie. Students interested in pursuing a course of studies in museum or library sciences will obtain valuable experience by working with others trained in those fields.
High School age (or older) volunteers are needed to guide visitors through the Benson-Hammond House and interpret the collection of 19th century truck farming and household implements. The House is open on Saturdays from 11am to 3pm and Sundays from 12 noon to 3pm from March through November. Volunteers are asked to commit to one shift per month.
The Kuethe Historical and Genealogical Research Library holds literally thousands of books, documents, maps, photographs and other records of Anne Arundel County history. Volunteers are needed to help catalog and digitize collections, assist visitors with their research and accession new donations. The library is open Thursday, Friday and Saturday from 10am to 4pm and volunteers are asked to commit to one 6-hour shift per month.
Other opportunities are available to help in special events or to contribute to our quarterly publication, History Notes. If you are interested, please contact Becky Morris at .
Tennis Alliance of Anne Arundel County
The Tennis Alliance of AACo is a not-for-profit community tennis organization accredited with the AACo Department of Recreation and Parks and the USTA (United States Tennis Association). The Tennis Alliance promotes tennis as a lifetime sport for health and well-being for all county residents, and the need for a tennis center in Anne Arundel County.
College students and high school students age 16 or older are needed as volunteers to assist with outreach programs that introduce tennis to diverse populations. Our children’s programs include lessons on sportsmanship, hard work and healthy habits; our adult programs provide information on healthy lifestyles and family nutrition. Students volunteering will work closely with children encouraging success and defining that goal as fun, fitness, and friendship through tennis.
No tennis experience or skills are required, although they are welcome. Leadership opportunities are available for those who complete an on line course. Spring and Summer instructor positions are available in 2015.
