AAWR May Workshop Event: St. Lukes

Come and help improve the environmental quality of Anne Arundel County by removing invasive species of plants! St. Lukes is currently plagued by many invasive plant species such as English Ivy, Multi-flora Rose, Burning Bush, and many others. If you would like to attend this workshop event and help improve the environmental quality of St. Lukes, please dress for the weather and bring bottled water to avoid dehydration. Wear a long sleeve shirt, long pants, closed toe shoes, and a hat. Tools such as loppers, pruners, handsaws, and work gloves will be provided. First aid kits will also be available for emergencies. You can bring and use your own tools if you have them.

MD Food Truck Festival

The Parole Rotary Club Foundation, a 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation, is looking for volunteers to help with parking for the MD Food Truck Festival at the Anne Arundel County Fairgrounds on June 10, 2018, with 3 shifts: 7:00AM - 11:00AM; 1:30AM - 2:30PM; 2:30PM - 6:30PM. Volunteers will be directing cars to parking spaces. Volunteers will receive free admission to the festival from 11:00AM to 9:00PM when not on shift. Arundel High School - Mock Interviews

Arundel High School, 1001 Annapolis Road, Gambrills, MD, needs adult volunteers to conduct mock job interviews with 11th grade students on June 5th and 6th, 2018: Several shifts are available between the hours of 7:45 am - 2:00 pm each day. This experience is designed to offer our students a real world application utilizing career readiness concepts introduced in the 11th grade Honors English. Students have been discussing topics such as; appropriate dress, eye contact, oral communication, courtesy, assertiveness, and resume writing. The program is designed to give students a chance to practice their newly learned skills by offering a one on one interview with an adult from outside the school. Questions? Maryland Hall Ushers

Maryland Hall For the Creatuve Arts, 801 Chase St, Annapolis, MD is holding orientation sessions from 6:00 – 7:30 pm, Tuesday, June 5th, OR 6:00 – 7:30 pm, Thursday, June 7th, 2018, (attend only one orientation) for prospective volunteers who will usher at Maryland Hall performances or assist at special events. Ushering requires some standing and walking, excellent customer service, and attendance at an additional training session soon after the orientation training. Special events volunteers will assist with varied events including set up prior to and closing up; each one has different needs such as our upcoming fall Arts Alive Gala and our spring Art Auction. ESOL Audience Volunteers

Race Across America Finish Line

We are looking for volunteers for the Race Across America finish line. These racers are traveling over 3,000 miles from Oceanside, CA to Annapolis, MD in 12 days or less! The earliest finisher is expected to arrive Thursday, June 21st, and the latest, Monday, June 25th. Please join us in guiding them to the finish line, congratulating them on their great accomplishment, and experiencing the action first hand! Positions needed: • Flagger Volunteer – two flaggers are needed to wave and guide in the racers along the finishing course. Responsibilities may also include monitoring the parking lot and guiding the racers and support vehicles to designated areas and helping with traffic flow. • Ram’s Head Volunteer – The official race time ends at the Rams Head Roadhouse. This person’s job is to record the racers’ official finishing times, and conveying them to the Finish Line Manager. Volunteer shifts will be generally 6 hours – midnight-6am, 6am-noon, noon-6pm, and 6pm-midnight. The greatest need will be on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Volunteer Incentive: • All volunteers will receive a Race Across America volunteer T-shirt. • Volunteers dedicating 12 hours or more of their time will receive a complimentary ticket to the finishing banquet on Monday evening. ($65 Value) • Get to work with the racers first-hand and experience their amazing accomplishments up-close. Food Bank Volunteer

The Anne Arundel County Food and Resource Bank is looking for volunteers to sort food and re-pack Government surplus items at their Crownsville facility. There is no heavy lifting involved and this is a great individual or group volunteer activity (good for team building as well). Volunteers are needed between the hours of 9 am and 3p m, Monday through Friday. Help your community, get volunteer credit (if you need it), and have fun! Hop(e), Skip & Jump 5K Family Fun Walk

The "Hop(e), Skip & Jump 5K Family Fun Walk" is part of the Move More Race Series and is being held at Kinder Farm Park, Millersville, MD, Saturday, July 28th, 7:00 – 11:00 am. Volunteers are needed on the day of the event starting at 7:00 am to assist with race support, be a course monitor, register participants and give out race bags, mark course, and take pictures.
